Cherokee Recreation and Parks is proud to announce the opening of our new facility the L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens, Jr. Recreation Center on Friday, February 3, 2023 located in Cherokee Veterans Park inside the largest park we have in Cherokee County.
The L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens Jr. Recreation Center is named after the our former Cherokee County Commission Chair, Buzz Ahrens Jr., who was honored with a proclamation at the ribbon cutting ceremony and spoke about the importance of the center and its many qualities for the community.
Standing tall the Buzz breathes southern charms and has quickly become the talk of the town bringing opportunities for special events, camps, sporting events, instructional classes, and facility rentals. Inside we offer two full sized basketball courts, officials meeting room, cardio/fitness zone, multiple classrooms, a dance studio, home to new administrative offices and a 2-story rock-climbing tower and in the main atrium.
Being in located in Cherokee Veterans Parks "The Buzz" pays tribute to all branches of military services with Victory Hall a special events facility and a new outdoor hiking trail located near our monument built by volunteers in our community.
Victory Hall at The Buzz is a large banquet hall that will seat 200 guests with a warming kitchen, restrooms, separate entrance and a porch style veranda with extra outdoor seating overlooking the rolling hills of Cherokee Veterans Park.
