Cherokee County Aquatic Center and Splash Pad
We opened our indoor pools for exercise only, lap swim and rehab/therapy patients, by reservation only. We have restricted the number of swimmers allowed at one time with additional protocols for cleaning and hygiene. It has been a very successful week with the re-opening!
Starting on June 1st, lap swimming will be expanded to include swim teams during scheduled times only with restrictions on the number of swimmers allowed.
Outdoor Pool will open on June 15th with measures including staggered sessions with reduced capacity with cleaning and disinfecting in between sessions. We are actively training lifeguards in preparation.
The opening of the Splash Pad in Waleska is to be determined. More information to come on this facility.
CCAC Programs such as Aqua Aerobics will resume on June 8th & Swim Lessons are to be determined. Staff are developing guidelines for safely resuming these services.
Last week we started athletic field reservations again for our local YAA’s to practice by permit only. This has improved control of the activity on nights and weekends and allowed us to prioritize our local community.
Starting on June 1st – Local sports leagues (YAA’s) will be allowed to start games but must comply with safety protocols for conducting activities. It’s recommended social distancing is maintained, reduced capacity (1:1) by spectators, procedures for limiting contact between coaches and participants, expanding confined areas such as dugouts, and staggering game times to limit the number of people present in the park at the same time. No post team meetings or team snacks distributions permitted, etc.
Starting on June 8th – Adult softball will resume with a summer league with safety protocols in place such as reduced capacity for spectators (1:1 ratio) for each team, staggered schedules and special league rules for increased hygiene, etc.
Starting on June 11th – Tournament play will be permitted but must comply with strict safety protocols including reduced capacity for spectators (1:1 ratio) for each team, special pool play schedules to reduce team flow in/out of the parks, etc.
Summer Camps and Programs
Using the protocols in the Governor’s 5.12.20 Executive Order for camps and childcare facilities as well as guidelines from the American Camp Association (ACA), CRPA staff have developed protocols for summer camps, including but not limited to drop off/pick up procedures, hygiene practices throughout the day for staff and campers, reduced numbers of campers in groups, etc.
Starting on June 8th – Summer camps will start at the Recreation Center and JJ Biello Park Twin Creeks Complex.
Rental of pavilions and Community Rooms will resume June 1st with 50% capacity or less. Groups must continue to abide by the protocols in the Governor’s most recent Executive Order on gathering sizes and number of people in a single location if social distancing is not possible. Rentals of indoor spaces will be scheduled to allow for cleaning and disinfecting between each rental.
Starting on June 1st - Recreation Center will resume full operational hours Monday through Saturday for the general public, but we will still be adhering to strict social distancing guidelines and reduced capacity.
