Summer Camp Update

Summer Camp Families, 

The summer of 2020 will look different than it has in the past. We are adapting to the challenge at hand and are looking forward to hosting an exciting camp season for your campers! We have instilled numerous sanitation policies, modified games, and have adjusted where we meet all of the required guidelines set by Governor Kemp’s latest orders, along with orders and guidelines given by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and American Camp Association (ACA). Some much awaited information about our 2020 season is below:

On new registration dates are:

  • We HIGHLY encourage you to register online for all campsThis year spots are limited. We recommend that your REC1 account is up to date and ready to register by your registration date. Also note that our lobby at the Recreation Center only allows for 5 individuals to be in the lobby at one time, under our current guidelines.
  • Early Registration for Adventures Express and KAOS Camp, for those who attended 7 or more weeks of summer camp in 2019, and for all specialty camps will occur on Monday, June 1st starting at 9 AM.
  • Early Registrants - please note that due to our timeline this year you will only have two full days to register instead of the usual week. We want to make sure you can plan accordingly. 
  • Regular registration for Adventures Express and KAOS camp will start Wednesday, June 3rd at 9 AM.
  • Though we will have wait-lists for all of our camps, registration will be first come, first serve. 

Due to the newest guidelines the following major overall adjustments have been made for each category of camp:

Adventures Express Camp:

  • Daily camp times remain 7 AM – 6 PM.
  • Camp locations have decreased number of campers each week. Though this decision was not easy it make, it was made to make sure that we are following guidelines, making sure camper and staff safety is a top priority.
  • Due to not being able to run out of Carmel Elementary School OR Hickory Flat Elementary School for 2020, we will now only run out of the following facilities, with the following number of campers each week:
  • Cherokee County Recreation Center: Ages 5-8
  • Total 25 Campers per week
  • Running week of: June 8th – July 27th (excluding the week of June 29th – July 3rd)
  • Cherokee County Recreation Center: Ages 9-12
  • Total 25 Campers per week
  • Running week of: June 8th – July 27th (excluding the week of June 29th – July 3rd)
  • Twin Creeks Softball Facility: Age 5 - 12
  • Total 15 Campers per week
  • Running week of: June 8th – July 27th (excluding the week of June 29th – July 3rd)
  • * The weeks of June 8th & July 6th, we are only available to run Monday – Wednesday with a rate of $100 for the three days, due to scheduling.
  • Due to recommended guidelines, we have canceled all offsite and onsite field trips for the duration of camp but replaced with daily activities not limited to art, music, games, crafts, etc.
  • Any lunches, snacks, and snack crafts that are normally provided by CRPA have also been removed from our schedule. Including: pizza Monday’s, lunches provided on field trips, the daily snack cart and access to the vending machines.
  • We are currently only allowing individuals from Cherokee County to participate in our recreation programming. This comes from guidance by State and Federal Guidelines, to encourage program participants come from a similar geographic area, as another preventative measure against COVID-19.
  • Camp cost $150 per camper, per week. There is a $50 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration, per child, per week that goes towards the total cost of camp.

KAOS Camp:

  • Daily camp times remain 9 AM – 3 PM.
  • Camp locations have decreased number of campers each week. Though this decision was not easy it make, it was made to make sure that we are following guidelines, making sure camper and staff safety is a top priority.
  • Due to not being able to run out of Woodstock Elementary Gymnasium - we will now only run out of the following facilities, with the following number of campers each week:
  • Cherokee County Recreation Center: Stage
  • Total 10 Campers per week
  • Running week of June 15th – July 27th (excluding the week of June 29th – July 3rd)
  • Due to recommended guidelines, we have canceled all offsite and onsite field trips for the duration of camp but replaced with daily activities not limited to art, music, games, crafts, etc.
  • Any lunches, snacks and snack crafts that are normally provided by CRPA have also been removed from our schedule.

Specialty Camps: 

  • The following Specialty Camps have been cancelled for the 2020 season, for various reasons:
  • All Waterlogged Camps, Water Adventure Camp and Outdoor Adventure Camp
  • The following Specialty Camps are still running:
  • Fishing Camp will run: June 8th – 12th & June 15th – 19th
  • Outdoor Camps: June 22nd – 26th, July 13th – 17th & July 20th – 24th
  • Magic Camp: June 8th – June 12th
